[ Design ] Decked Out

Project Name: Decked Out
Location: Brookline, Massachusetts, USA
Typology: Urban Landscape
Size: 500 sq.ft
Date: 2010
Project Team: Jay S. Lim (Project Lead)

One of the most valuable commodities in urban living is outdoor space. The project goal was to reclaim an unused rooftop and create a space for both entertaining and gardening. The structure was composed of modular 2’x2’ plates which could be easily removed in order to access the roof for repairs. The garden portion was designed to utilize rain water collected from the roof, providing a growing space for the residents to cultivate vegetables and other plants. The entertainment portion of the deck sits just above the south facade and provided spectacular views of the Boston skyline, as well as the annual Boston Marathon.
